About this tool

Some apps, editors and upload forms ask for PNG files, and converting to PNG gives you a lossless copy that will not lose more quality each time it is saved. This JPG to PNG converter decodes each JPG or JPEG in your browser and saves it as a PNG with the same pixel dimensions. You can drop in several photos at once, preview each result with its size before and after, and download the PNGs individually or together as a ZIP. Two things are worth knowing. First, PNG cannot bring back detail that JPEG compression already removed; it simply stops further loss. Second, PNG files are usually several times larger than the original JPG, and the result has no transparent background because a JPG has none to begin with. To remove a background, use the Background Remover instead. Your photos are converted on your device and never uploaded.

Why use it

  • Browser-only conversion: each JPG is decoded and re-encoded as PNG on your device, so photos are never uploaded.

  • Batch friendly: select several JPG files at once and download them one by one or together as a ZIP.

  • Same dimensions: the output keeps the exact pixel width and height of the source image.

  • Clear per-file results: each file shows a preview, its dimensions and the size before and after conversion.

  • No account, watermark or daily limit.

  • Stops further quality loss: PNG is lossless, so later edits and re-saves do not add new JPEG artefacts.

How to use

  1. Click the upload area or drag one or more .jpg or .jpeg files onto it.
  2. Press Convert to PNG.
  3. Review each converted file: preview, dimensions and file size before and after.
  4. Download each PNG, or use Download all (ZIP) for a batch.

When it helps

  • An upload form, print shop or app only accepts PNG files.
  • You plan to edit and re-save a photo several times and want to avoid repeated JPEG compression.
  • You are adding screenshots or scans to documentation that standardises on PNG.
  • You need a PNG copy before adding text or graphics in an editor.

Examples

Illustrated cover image

cover.jpg: 1200×630, 78 KB

Expected result

cover.png: 1200×630, 910 KB

Large photo

Input

photo.jpg: 1600×1200, 310 KB

Expected result

photo.png: 1600×1200, 3.4 MB

Damaged file

Input

broken.jpg (not a real JPEG)

Expected result

broken.jpg: this browser could not decode the file; Converted 0 of 1 file

Tips

  • If you only need a smaller file, keep the JPG or use the Image Compressor instead of converting.
  • For web use, WebP is usually smaller than both JPG and PNG.
  • Convert to PNG before heavy editing, then export the final version to JPG if size matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. The PNG is an exact copy of the decoded JPG pixels, so artefacts already in the JPG remain. What PNG does is prevent additional loss when the image is edited and saved again.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG is fully opaque. Use the Background Remover if you need a transparent cut-out.
Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
JPEG discards detail to save space, while PNG stores every pixel losslessly. A photo saved as PNG is often three to ten times larger. The file cards show the exact sizes.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Decoding and encoding happen in your browser with the Canvas API. Only the ZIP helper library is loaded from a CDN when you use Download all.
Is EXIF metadata kept?
No. The image is redrawn on a canvas, so camera details and GPS location are not copied into the PNG.
How many files can I convert at once?
There is no fixed limit, but each file can be up to 50 MB and very large batches use more memory, so convert in smaller groups on phones.
