About this tool
The Tier List Maker lets you rank anything, from snacks to game characters, in S, A, B, C, D and F tiers and download the result as a PNG image. Type items one per line or add pictures from your device, then drag them from the Unranked pool into a tier with a mouse, a finger or a pen. You can also select an item and move it with the arrow keys or the move buttons, or tap a tier row to drop the selected item there. Tier names, colors and order are editable, and you can add or remove tiers. The PNG is 1,200 pixels wide, with items drawn at 100 by 100 pixels, ten per line, and photos center-cropped to squares. Everything runs in your browser and images are never uploaded. Your tiers, title and text items are saved in this browser, so they are still there next time; images are not saved, so add them again after a reload. Items left in Unranked are not included in the PNG.
Why use it
Text or pictures: rank a pasted list in seconds, or use your own images without uploading them anywhere.
Works with touch, mouse and keyboard: drag and drop on any device, or move the selected item with buttons and arrow keys.
Fully editable tiers: rename, recolor, reorder, add or remove tiers, and the label text switches between black and white to stay readable.
Clean PNG export with your title, tier colors, text and images, and no watermark.
Picks up where you left off: tiers, title and text items stay saved in your browser without an account.
How to use
- Type the things you want to rank in the text box, one per line, and click Add text items. To use pictures, click or drag image files onto the upload area.
- Drag each item from Unranked into a tier. Drop it between two items to place it exactly, or drag it along a tier to reorder.
- On a phone or with a keyboard, select an item, then tap a tier row, use the arrow buttons, or press the arrow keys to move it.
- Open Edit tiers to rename a tier, change its color, move it up or down, remove it or add a new one.
- Add an optional title, then click Download PNG to save the tier list as an image.
When it helps
- Ranking games, characters, movies, albums or snacks to share in a group chat or on social media.
- Running a classroom or team activity where everyone sorts options from best to worst.
- Prioritizing ideas, features or a to-do list into tiers before a planning meeting.
- Making a thumbnail or slide for a tier list video or stream.
Examples
01Default board, no title
InputThe six S to F tiers with up to 10 items in each
Expected resultPNG of 1,200 × 706 px: six rows of 116 px plus five 2 px separators
02Title and a busy S tier
InputTitle Snacks, 11 items in S and at most 10 in every other tier
Expected resultPNG of 1,200 × 886 px: a 72 px title band, a 224 px S row holding two lines of items, and five 116 px rows
InputA 1,920 × 1,080 px photo
Expected resultCenter-cropped to the middle 1,080 × 1,080 px square (x 420 to 1,500) and drawn as a 100 × 100 px tile
Tips
- Paste a whole list at once: every line becomes its own item and blank lines are skipped.
- Square images look best, because each picture is center-cropped to a square tile.
- Use Unranked as a holding area: items left there are not included in the downloaded PNG.
- Rename the tiers to fit your topic, for example Must try, Good and Skip; in the PNG, long names wrap and shrink to fit the label.
- On a phone, swipe on a tier label or empty space to scroll the page; dragging an item near the top or bottom edge scrolls too.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make a tier list?⌄
Add items as text, one per line, or as images, then drag each one from Unranked into a tier. When the ranking looks right, add a title if you want one and click Download PNG.
Can I use my own pictures?⌄
Yes. Click or drag image files onto the upload area and each one becomes an item named after its file. Images are read in your browser and never uploaded. They are not saved either, so add them again after you reload the page.
Is my tier list saved?⌄
Your tier names, colors and order, the title and all text items are saved in this browser's local storage and come back when you reopen the page in the same browser. Images are not saved. Start over clears the board and restores the S to F tiers.
How do I move items on a phone or with a keyboard?⌄
Drag them with your finger, or tap an item to select it and then tap a tier row or use the arrow buttons. With a keyboard, Tab to an item, press Enter to select it and use the arrow keys: up and down change the tier, left and right change the position. Delete or Backspace removes it.
What size is the downloaded PNG?⌄
It is 1,200 pixels wide. Each tier is 116 pixels tall for up to 10 items and grows by 108 pixels for every extra line of 10, tiers are separated by 2 pixel lines, and a title adds a 72 pixel band at the top. The default six tiers with up to 10 items each give 1,200 × 706 pixels.
Are items in Unranked included in the image?⌄
No. Only the tiers are drawn, so you can leave items you have not ranked yet in Unranked.
How many items and tiers can I add?⌄
Up to 300 items. Text items can be up to 60 characters and tier names up to 40 characters. There is no fixed limit on tiers, but a tier list needs at least one.
What do the S, A, B, C, D and F tiers mean?⌄
They borrow school letter grades: A is very good and F is the lowest, while S sits above A for the very best. Rename the tiers if your list needs different labels.
