About this tool

The CPS Test measures how many times you can click per second. Pick a test length of 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds and click the box as fast as you can. The timer starts on your first click, and when time is up you get your total clicks and your CPS score to two decimal places: clicks divided by the test length in seconds. While you click, live stats show your click count, the seconds left and your current pace. Mouse clicks, touchscreen taps and pen taps all count once each, because the test listens for the moment of the press rather than the click event that follows it, so a tap is never counted twice. Right and middle mouse buttons are ignored, and so are clicks after time is up. Your best score for each test length is saved in this browser. Results depend on your technique and on your mouse or screen, so compare scores taken on the same device. The test runs entirely in your browser, and nothing is uploaded.

Why use it

  • The timer starts on your first click, so no time is lost reacting to a countdown.

  • Every mouse press, tap or pen touch counts exactly once, with no double counting on touchscreens.

  • Five test lengths, from a 1-second burst to a 60-second endurance run.

  • Your best score for each length is kept in this browser, so you can see when you beat it.

  • Clicks after time is up are ignored, so a last flurry cannot inflate your score.

How to use

  1. Choose a test length: 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds. The 5-second test is selected at first.
  2. Click or tap inside the large box. The timer starts with your first click.
  3. Keep clicking as fast as you can while the box shows your click count and the stats show the seconds left and your current pace.
  4. When time is up, read your total clicks, your CPS to two decimals and whether you beat your best.
  5. Press Restart to try again, or pick another test length.

When it helps

  • Warming up before a game that rewards fast clicking.
  • Comparing clicking techniques, such as jitter clicking and butterfly clicking, on the same mouse.
  • Comparing a new mouse or touchpad with your old one on the same test length.
  • A quick challenge with friends or classmates to see who clicks fastest.

Examples

5-second test

Input

62 clicks in the 5-second test

Expected result

12.40 CPS

1-second burst

Input

9 clicks in the 1-second test

Expected result

9.00 CPS

60-second endurance test

Input

420 clicks in the 60-second test

Expected result

7.00 CPS

Tips

  • Compare scores within one test length: a 60-second result is not comparable with a 5-second burst.
  • Keep the pointer inside the box, because a press that lands outside it is not counted.
  • On a phone, tap with two fingers in turn; each finger's tap counts separately.
  • Compare scores on the same mouse or screen, since devices register very fast presses differently.
  • Clearing your browser data also clears your saved best scores; Clear best scores resets them on purpose.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a CPS test?
A CPS test counts how many times you click in a set time and divides by the seconds to give clicks per second. For example, 50 clicks in the 5-second test is 10.00 CPS.
When does the timer start?
On your first click or tap inside the box. That click counts as click 1, and the test ends when the chosen length has passed; clicks after that are ignored.
What is a good CPS score?
There is no official standard. Scores depend on your clicking technique, your mouse or screen and the test length, and a fast pace is harder to hold for 30 or 60 seconds. The fairest comparison is with your own saved best for the same length.
Does the CPS test work on phones and tablets?
Yes. Each tap counts once. The test counts the moment your finger touches the screen, so the extra mouse and click events a browser sends after a tap are never counted again.
Why did my right-click not count?
Only the main button counts: a left click on a mouse, or a tap. Right and middle clicks are ignored, and the right-click menu is blocked inside the box.
Are my scores saved?
Your best score for each test length is saved in this browser's local storage and shown under Best CPS. Nothing is uploaded, and Clear best scores removes them.
What are jitter clicking and butterfly clicking?
They are techniques for clicking faster. Jitter clicking tenses the hand or arm so the finger vibrates on the button, and butterfly clicking alternates two fingers on the same button. Every press counts in this test, whichever technique you use.
Can I use the keyboard for this test?
No, it counts mouse clicks and screen taps. Pressing Enter on the box shows a note instead of counting. To measure key presses, use the Spacebar Counter.
