About this tool
What GPU Do I Have? shows the graphics chip your browser is drawing with, in about a second and with nothing to install. It reads the renderer name that the browser's WebGL interface reports, cleans it up into a readable model name such as "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU" or "Apple M2", and labels it as integrated, dedicated or a software renderer. It also asks WebGPU, the newer graphics interface used by in-browser AI and 3D apps, for the adapter's vendor and architecture, and lists whether 16-bit shaders work and the largest buffer it allows. The report adds your screen resolution and pixel ratio, a measured refresh rate, CPU thread count and the browser's rough memory estimate. Some browsers, including Safari and Firefox with fingerprinting protection, hide the exact model, and the page says so and shows how to check in Windows, macOS or Linux instead. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Why use it
Instant answer without opening Device Manager, System Information or a terminal.
Shows the GPU the browser actually uses, which is what matters for web games, WebGPU and in-browser AI.
Flags software rendering, the usual cause of slow 3D and video in a browser.
Works the same on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, Android and iPhone.
Free, no download, and nothing leaves your device.
How to use
- Open the page; the check runs automatically.
- Read the GPU name and type at the top. Dedicated means a separate graphics card; integrated means graphics built into the processor.
- Look at the WebGPU row to see whether in-browser AI and WebGPU games can use your GPU.
- If a warning says the name is hidden or a software renderer is in use, follow its advice, then choose Check again.
- Choose Copy report to paste the details into a support request or forum post.
When it helps
- Checking whether a laptop has a dedicated graphics card before installing a game.
- Finding your GPU model for a driver download or a support ticket.
- Checking whether WebGPU works before trying an in-browser AI model or 3D app.
- Working out why a browser game or video call is choppy.

Tips
- A laptop with two GPUs may show the power-saving one. In Windows, set the browser to High performance under Settings → System → Display → Graphics, then check again.
- If the result says software renderer, turn on hardware acceleration in your browser settings and update your graphics driver.
- Safari reports a generic Apple GPU; use About This Mac for the exact chip.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find out what graphics card I have?⌄
Open this page and read the GPU name at the top. On Windows you can also press Ctrl+Shift+Esc and open Performance, then GPU; on a Mac choose Apple menu, then About This Mac; on Linux run lspci and look for VGA.
Why does it show a different GPU than I expected?⌄
Laptops with two graphics chips often run the browser on the power-saving integrated one. Set the browser to use the high-performance GPU in Windows graphics settings or your NVIDIA or AMD control panel, then check again.
Why does it only say Apple GPU or a generic name?⌄
Some browsers hide the exact model to reduce fingerprinting. Safari does this, as does Firefox with resist-fingerprinting turned on. The operating system check described on the page shows the exact model.
What does software renderer mean?⌄
The browser is drawing graphics with the processor instead of the GPU, usually because hardware acceleration is off, the driver is missing or the GPU is blocklisted. 3D pages and video will be slow until you fix it.
What is the difference between integrated and dedicated graphics?⌄
Integrated graphics are built into the processor and share system memory. A dedicated, or discrete, GPU is a separate chip with its own video memory and is usually much faster for games and 3D work.
What is WebGPU and why does it matter?⌄
WebGPU is the modern browser interface for GPU graphics and computation. In-browser AI models and newer 3D apps need it; if it is unavailable, they fall back to slower paths or do not run.
Does this tool upload any information?⌄
No. Every check runs in your browser with standard web interfaces, and nothing is sent to a server.
Glossary
- WebGL
- A browser interface for 3D graphics that also reports which GPU renders the page.
- WebGPU
- The newer browser interface for GPU graphics and general computation, used by in-browser AI.
- Discrete GPU
- A separate graphics chip with its own video memory, as opposed to graphics built into the processor.
