About this tool
The Small Text Generator turns ordinary text into three kinds of tiny Unicode letters at once: small caps (ʜᴇʟʟᴏ), superscript (ᴴᵉˡˡᵒ) and subscript (ₕₑₗₗₒ), each with its own copy button. Because the output is made of real Unicode characters rather than a font, it pastes into places that accept plain text, such as Instagram, TikTok and X bios, Discord names, game usernames and chats. Not every letter has a small form: Unicode has no small capital x and no subscript b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y or z, and superscript q is too new for many fonts, so those letters stay as typed and the page lists exactly which ones in your text were left unchanged. Superscript and subscript also convert digits and + − = ( ), and an option limits them to those characters for x² or H₂O. Screen readers may read these characters oddly, so avoid them for important information. Everything happens in your browser.
Why use it
Shows all three tiny styles side by side, each with a one-click copy button.
Lists exactly which letters could not be shrunk instead of swapping in look-alike symbols.
Offers a numbers-only mode for exponents and chemical formulas such as x² and H₂O.
Supports true small caps, which keep capital letters full size.
Runs in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded.
How to use
- Type or paste your text in the box.
- Read the small caps, superscript and subscript versions, which update as you type.
- Check the note under the results for letters that had no small form and were left as typed.
- Tick the small caps option to keep capitals full size, or the numbers-only option to write x² or H₂O.
- Press the Copy button beside the style you want and paste it where you need it.
When it helps
- Writing a subtle tagline or name in a social media bio.
- Adding exponents or footnote markers, such as m² or ¹, in places that only accept plain text.
- Typing chemical formulas like CO₂ in chats or plain-text documents.
- Styling a gaming username or Discord nickname.

Tips
- Check how the text looks in the app where you paste it; some older devices show the small capital q (ꞯ) as an empty box.
- Keep your real name and contact details in normal text so search and screen readers can read them.
- For exponents, tick the numbers-only option so letters stay normal: x2 becomes x².
- You can mix styles: copy one word in small caps and another in superscript into the same line.
- Some sites block unusual characters in usernames; if a name is rejected, fall back to plain letters.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make small text?⌄
Type your text in the box and copy one of the three results. The tool swaps each letter for a Unicode small capital, superscript or subscript character, so the text stays small wherever you paste it.
Will small text work on Instagram, TikTok and Discord?⌄
Usually, yes. These are standard Unicode characters, so they paste into bios, captions, names and messages wherever Unicode text is allowed. How they look depends on the fonts on the reader's device.
Why are some letters not converted?⌄
Unicode does not include every letter in every small style. There is no small capital x and no subscript b, c, d, f, g, q, w, y or z. A superscript q was added only in Unicode 14 and many fonts lack it, so the tool leaves q as typed in superscript. The note under the results lists the letters left unchanged in your text.
What is the difference between small caps, superscript and subscript?⌄
Small caps are capital letter shapes at lowercase height (ʜᴇʟʟᴏ). Superscript letters sit above the line (ʰᵉˡˡᵒ), and subscript letters sit below it (ₕₑₗₗₒ).
How do I type x² or H₂O?⌄
Tick the numbers-only option, then type x2 or H2O. Superscript gives x² and subscript gives H₂O, while the letters stay normal.
Do screen readers read small text?⌄
Not reliably. Screen readers may spell the characters out, read them as phonetic symbols or skip them, so keep essential information in plain text.
Is this the same as a smaller font size?⌄
No. Font size is formatting that is lost when you paste into a plain-text field. These are separate characters, so the small look travels with the text.
Does it convert numbers and symbols?⌄
Superscript and subscript convert the digits 0 to 9 and the signs + − = ( ). Small caps leaves digits and punctuation unchanged, and accented letters and emoji pass through every style as typed.
Glossary
- Unicode
- The standard that gives every character, from letters to emoji, a unique code so it displays the same across devices.
- Small caps
- Capital letter shapes drawn at roughly the height of lowercase letters.
- Superscript
- Characters raised above the baseline, as in x² or a footnote marker.
- Subscript
- Characters lowered below the baseline, as in H₂O.
- Modifier letter
- A Unicode character type, first used in phonetic notation, that supplies most superscript letters.
