Round Avatar Maker

Turn any photo into a round profile picture with optional border and platform-preset sizes.

About Round Avatar Maker

The Round Avatar Maker turns any photo into a perfect circular profile picture with an optional colored border and a preset output size for popular platforms. Unlike a generic circle crop, this tool is built around avatars — it square-pads the canvas, applies a circular mask, and renders an optional thick border in any color. Drag the photo to reposition, scale zoom from 50% to 300%, and pick output sizes from 256 px to 1024 px to match Discord, GitHub, X, and other platform requirements. The result is a transparent-corner PNG with a clean circular subject, ready to upload as your profile photo. Everything runs in your browser — your face never touches a server.

Tips

  • For best results, upload a photo where your face takes up the central 60-70% of the frame.
  • Use Zoom 100% as a starting point, then adjust if your subject doesn't fill the circle.
  • Borders 4-8 pixels look subtle; 16+ creates a clear branded ring effect.
  • Discord and X both display avatars as circles, so a square-only crop loses framing — this tool gets it right.
  • If your photo's background is busy, increase zoom slightly to push it outside the circle and emphasize the subject.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between this and Image Circle Crop?
Round Avatar Maker is built specifically for profile pictures: platform-preset output sizes, an optional colored border, and zoom controls. Image Circle Crop is a more general circular-crop tool without preset sizes.
Why is the output square if it's an avatar?
Avatars are square PNGs with a transparent circle in the middle. Platforms like Discord and X display the square as a circle, but the underlying file must be square.
Will my photo upload to a server?
No. All cropping and rendering happens in your browser via the HTML5 Canvas API. Your photo never leaves your device.
Can I add multiple borders?
Currently only a single border is supported. For double rings, save once with a thin border, re-upload, and add a wider second border.
Why does the border look slightly fuzzy at small sizes?
At very small output sizes (256), thin borders can anti-alias slightly. For crisp edges, use larger output sizes or thicker borders.
What's the best output size for Discord?
Discord stores avatars at 128 pixels but accepts up to 1024×1024 uploads — we recommend 512 for a balance of quality and file size.
Can I save as JPG?
We export PNG only because JPG can't store transparency, and the corners outside the circle need to be transparent for the avatar to look correct on any background.
Why does my avatar look pixelated on hover or zoom?
If you're uploading a 256-pixel avatar, platforms may upscale it for high-DPI displays. Use 800 or 1024 for retina-sharp results everywhere.
