Polaroid Frame Maker

Give any photo a classic polaroid look with a white frame, caption, and slight rotation. Download as PNG.

About Polaroid Frame Maker

The Polaroid Frame Maker wraps your photo in a classic instant-print style frame: white padding on all sides with a wider bottom section for the caption area. A subtle drop shadow gives the polaroid a lifted, three-dimensional look. You can add a caption in italic text, rotate the frame between -15° and +15° for a casual, slightly tilted effect, pick a background color, and control the output size. The entire effect is rendered on an HTML5 Canvas and downloads as a PNG.

Why use Polaroid Frame Maker

  • Authentic polaroid proportions with a wider bottom caption area
  • Drop shadow gives depth without Photoshop
  • Rotation slider creates a natural, casual look
  • Works on any photo regardless of orientation or aspect ratio
  • No app install, no Instagram filter — generate authentic polaroids on any device.
  • Free forever, no watermark, no upload — full privacy.

How to use Polaroid Frame Maker

Examples

Vacation memory

Input: A 1500x1000 beach photo, caption 'Cabo 2024', rotation +5 degrees, off-white background

Output: A polaroid PNG approximately 800x1000 with subtle tilt and italic caption

Friend's birthday post

Input: A 1080x1080 portrait, caption 'Happy 30th!', rotation -3 degrees, pink background

Output: A polaroid PNG ready to share on Instagram stories

Wedding scrapbook page

Input: A 2400x1600 ceremony photo, caption 'Forever, June 12', rotation +2 degrees, cream background

Output: A high-resolution polaroid PNG suitable for a physical scrapbook print

Tips

  • Keep rotation between -8 and +8 degrees for a natural casual tilt — anything more starts to look posed.
  • Type a date or short phrase as the caption (e.g. 'Summer 2024') for an authentic memory-album feel.
  • Pick an off-white background (#f0e8d8) instead of pure white to mimic photo paper aging.
  • Increase Frame Size to 600+ px for print-quality output suitable for physical scrapbooking.
  • Stack multiple polaroid PNGs in the Simple Collage Grid Maker to recreate a vintage photo wall.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a caption to the polaroid?
Yes. Type text in the Caption field and it appears in italic text in the wide bottom section of the white frame.
What background colors can I use?
Any color via the browser's color picker. The default is a warm off-white (#e8e0d8) that mimics photo paper, but you can choose any color including transparent backgrounds (note: PNG output maintains the background color).
Why is the downloaded PNG larger than the original image?
The polaroid frame adds white padding on all sides plus a taller bottom section. Rotation also increases the canvas bounding box to fit the entire tilted frame.
What font is used for the caption?
An italic serif font at a size proportional to the frame (about 7% of the frame width) for an authentic handwritten polaroid look.
Can I remove the drop shadow?
Currently the shadow is always applied to give the polaroid a realistic lifted look. A future version may add a toggle.
What is the maximum frame size?
The Frame Size slider goes up to 700px for the photo area. The full output canvas including frame, padding, and rotation bleed will be larger.
Can I disable the rotation entirely?
Yes — set the rotation slider to 0 for a perfectly upright polaroid frame.
Why is the output canvas larger than the photo plus the frame?
When rotation is non-zero, the canvas expands to fit the rotated frame's bounding box. This avoids clipping any corner of the polaroid.

Glossary

Polaroid
A brand of instant cameras whose distinctive square photos with a wider bottom border define this style.
Bleed
Extra canvas area beyond the frame that catches the rotated frame's corners — automatically calculated here.
Drop shadow
A blurred dark area drawn behind an object on a canvas to simulate light casting a shadow.
Italic typeface
A slanted variant of a font, used here for the caption to evoke handwritten labels.

The minimum rectangle that contains a rotated shape — the canvas grows to this size when you tilt the polaroid.
